Hey, guys.

I have taken the liberty of organizing the featured art into specific folders.
It was getting a bit messy.

I would appreciate it if all members and contributors could submit any art into the correct folders.
It just keep the place tidy, ya know.

Thanks, and enjoy yourself on #SPACE-FACTS! :)

You have some great space art here. I'm a little rusty on the digital space art myself but I think you might like it here is a [link]. Please tell me what you think.

Wow... Okay, so a planet that looks like the death star with all the farms being build won't be happening, so I guess I'll replace the theme of that area as like a rock planet being terraformed. Good to know the living planet Idea kinda works though. Because I didn't want to spoil what the project is, I neglected to say this is a shoot-em-up almost bullethell style of game, but despite the fact it's basically just a cartoon video game, i do want elements or realism in there.
Thanks for your space facts about space!

Mmm, there's a few problems...

So, planets have molten cores because they form due to space debris colliding. When two objects collide, both energy and momentum must be conserved. But kinetic energy often isn't, so a lot of that energy becomes heat, and that heat goes on and melts the planet. So "newborn" planets are largely, if not entirely, molten. Then the surface cools and forms a crust.

There are some really, really intense heat and pressures at the core of a planet, though I guess alternate forms of biochemistry might make the living planet possible...

As for an artificial planet: note this:

Stress on material is distributed down a 2-dimensional cross-section. Stress, however, comes from the object's weight, which is directly related to the object's volume, which is a 3-dimensional shape.

As a result, generally speaking, a larger object has more stress on itself from it's own weight, the larger it is.

That's why we had to invent high-strength steel before we could build skyscrapers, for example. Wood certainly couldn't take that! (contrary to some dreams I've had, lol).

Likewise, stronger alloys and metals with more srength-per-weight allow us to build taller and taller buildings.

But when you get on the scale of planets... There's pretty much no known material that wouldn't act like a liquid. That's why planets are round. Sure, there's mountains and valleys and such, but they're nothing overall. Astronaut Yuri Gaguran was blown away by how perfectly round the Earth looked from low orbit, for example.

I don't honestly know if carbon nanotubes are strong enough, I don't have math to back me up, but I really doubt they are. You'll have to come up with a super-strong material if you want an artificial planet that doesn't collapse under it's own weight.

Then, there's how to manufacture and work with that material... :p

Well there are 2 subdivisions of gas giants, the large ones with no ices, Jupiter and Saturn, or the relatively smaller ones Uranus and Neptune with more methane and ice than larger gas giants.
Then there are:
Carbon planets-Similar to rocky planets but made of carbon not silicon and oxygen
Hot Jupiters-Gas planets orbiting close to their parent star that erupt in giant firestorms
Brown Dwarfs-Borderline between stars and planets
Ocean planets-Rocky planets with the surface completely under water
And then you can have moons of giant planets that are pretty much like planets themselves.

Space facts eh? Well I have a question about a project I'm creating.
I know about gas planets and solid rock planets, but are there any other kinds of planets based on what they're made of? I already made up a living planet (the planet itself is a living organism) and an artificial planet still under construction as places in the project, but I'd like to know if theare are any REAL planet types that aren't just rock or gas giants.
